Drew Eldridge-Martin, 23, is starting law school here in the fall. Drew graduated from Haverford College, where he ran cross country. In his first attempt at the marathon distance Drew posted a quick 3:22. Look for Drew at the Wednesday workouts.

Ludington Lakestride Half-Marathon, Ludington, MI June 15, 2002

Randy Wildman tried his hand at the half-marathon distance while away in Michigan.

Reports Randy: I was passing people until this younger guy sped up and passed me back at mile 4. I wanted to get him back before we got to the trails at mile 6, but just couldn't do it for longer than a few seconds. I was forced to run the trails much faster than I wanted to in order to keep up. He still opened up a 200 meter lead. After the trails, however, he died, and I was able to gobble him up within a mile. The story has a sad ending, however, as my shoe came untied...cost me a full minute, and my rival. Final time, 1:31:17.

Monona Festival 5K - July 4, 2002

A beautiful morning and a good, fast course contributed to good times by all participants:

Farrell Malone: 18:20
Randy Wildman: 18:45
Megan Mitchell: 23:20

Madison Classic Triathlon: July 7, 2002

Due to "excessive levels of bacteria" (read: duck poop) around the Warner Park Beach, the Madison Classic Triathlon became a duathlon with a "mile" run, a 15 mile bike, and a 5K. Tom Arneson and Farrell Malone participated as a team and finished dead last. Actually, their time of 1:08:25 was good enough for second place amongst the team competitors but Techno Tom managed to avoid the chip readers on the run portion of the event, resulting in his 18:25 5K time not being recognized. Proof of his finish, however, does exist in the pics that follow. Lesson: No chip, no time. Good time was had by all, nonetheless.

Saturday Bagels and More

Thanks to Megan Mitchell the Saturday runners will be well fed after the run. Megan has secured bagels every Saturday morning from our friends at Einstein Bros. Bagels. The Saturday crowd is steadily growing in response to the prospect of free food. Again, we are meeting in front of the Union at 800 Langdon St. at 7:30am on Saturdays for distances ranging from 10-20 miles. Afterwards we reconvene at the terrace for bagels and more.
Speaking of Saturday...

The past two weeks have proven the switch to a Saturday run was a good move. Beautiful weather (including cooler temps) has obviously encouraged more to come out. As more runners add distance for fall marathons the group is only going to get better.
